Coal chemical industry refers to the process of converting coal into gaseous, liquid and solid fuels and related chemicals. Coal chemical industry mainly includes coal gasification, liquefaction, low temperature dry distillation and high temperature carbonization (coking) and processes for further refining and deep processing of intermediate products and products obtained in the above process, such as coal coking and tar processing and refining.

Coal is a very complex chemical substance, so there must be a large amount of sewage generated in the coal chemical production process. These sewages are mainly derived from the processing of non-bound water and combined water from raw coal, production of hydration introduced in the production process and wastewater formed by steam condensation, such as product separation and sewage separation during chemical processing.
