The weft winding method can be divided into three types: hollow core, Half-Hollow core and solid core according to the structure of weft tube.

The hollow and Half-Hollow weft coiling can be made into hollow or Half-Hollow weft coil by winding the weft on the spindle without or with Half-Hollow weft tube through a special conical cup or iron bowl device. The volume of hollow yarn is 50% more than that of solid yarn, but the vibration of spindle is great, the friction of yarn is intense and the winding density is low during weft winding. Hollow core winding is mostly used in woolen yarn, jute yarn and paper blanket weaving.

Solid core weft winding is made by winding the weft yarn on the weft tube through the winding forming mechanism. This is the most widely used way of winding weft in factories. There are vertical and horizontal weft winders for solid core weft winding, some of which are semi-automatic and fully automatic. Ordinary weft winding machine is composed of frame (or spindle seat), clearing, tension, winding and forming mechanism. The three basic actions are: (1) spindle rotation winding the weft yarn on the weft tube; (2) reciprocating action: yarn guide in a certain distance for reciprocating action, evenly winding the yarn layer by layer to the weft tube; (3)Forward action: the yarn layer moves slowly from the bottom of the weft tube to the top of the tube, keeping the knot with a certain winding diameter.
