The main difference between glass fiber and carbon fiber is that the chemical composition is completely different, while glass fiber is cheap and has low physical stability.

  1. Glass fiber is an inorganic non-metallic material with excellent performance. It has many advantages, such as good insulation, heat resistance, good corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength, but the disadvantage is that it is brittle and wear resistance is poor. The main components are silica, alumina, calcium oxide, boron oxide, magnesium oxide, sodium oxide, etc., according to the alkali content of the glass, can be divided into alkali-free glass fiber, medium-alkali glass fiber and high-alkali glass fiber. Glass fiber is commonly used as a reinforcing material in composite materials, electrical insulating materials and thermal insulation materials, circuit boards and other fields of the national economy.
  2. Glass fiber can be divided into continuous fiber, fixed length fiber and glass wool according to the shape and length. According to the glass component, it can be divided into alkali-free, chemical-resistant, high-alkali, medium-alkali, high-strength, high-elasticity modulus and alkali-resistant ( Alkali resistant) glass fiber, etc.
  3. Carbon fiber is a new type of fiber material with high strength and high modulus fibers with a carbon content of over 95%. It is a microcrystalline graphite material obtained by stacking organic fibers such as flake graphite crystallites along the axial direction of the fiber and carbonizing and graphitizing. Carbon fiber is “external and soft inside”, its quality is lighter than that of metal aluminum, but its strength is higher than that of steel, and it has corrosion resistance and high modulus. It is an important material in defense military and civilian use. It not only has the inherent intrinsic properties of carbon materials, but also has the soft processability of textile fibers. It is a new generation of reinforcing fibers.
