FR (Fouling Resistant) Brackish Water RO Membrane Element

By combining high desalination efficiency with excellent fouling resistance, FR membrane elements provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for modern water treatment and water reuse applications.

  • Enhanced Hydrophilic Surface for Superior Anti-Fouling Performance

Through a proprietary surface modification process, the RO membrane surface becomes significantly more hydrophilic. This enhanced hydrophilicity effectively minimizes the adhesion and accumulation of organic contaminants, colloids, microorganisms, and inorganic scale-forming salts. As a result, membrane fouling and scaling are substantially reduced, leading to longer cleaning intervals, lower operating costs, and extended membrane service life.

  • Designed for Brackish Water Treatment Applications

The membrane element is suitable for treating various water sources, including surface water, groundwater, municipal tap water, and other brackish water supplies with TDS levels ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 mg/L. Its superior anti-fouling characteristics make it particularly effective in challenging feed water conditions where conventional RO membranes may experience rapid performance decline.

  • Ideal for Water Reuse and Industrial Wastewater Treatment

FR membrane elements are widely used in industrial water treatment, municipal water reuse, wastewater reclamation, and industrial effluent purification systems. They are especially recommended for reclaimed water projects in large and medium-sized enterprises, treatment of industrial wastewater containing low concentrations of organic pollutants, high-salinity industrial wastewater treatment, and advanced purification of municipal wastewater effluent.

  • Reliable Performance with Lower Operating Costs

By combining high desalination efficiency with excellent fouling resistance, FR membrane elements provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for modern water treatment and water reuse applications. Their ability to maintain stable performance under demanding operating conditions helps reduce maintenance requirements, extend membrane lifespan, and maximize overall system efficiency.

  • Permeate flow rate for individual elements may vary with tolerance within 15%.

Working Principle

The core of a BWRO membrane is a selectively semipermeable membrane. Driven by external pressure that exceeds the osmotic pressure of the solution, water molecules pass through the membrane pores. Meanwhile, impurities such as dissolved inorganic salts, heavy metals, organic matter, bacteria, and viruses are retained on the concentrate side of the membrane, achieving purification and separation.

Typical Applications

  • Groundwater Desalination

Removal of excessive salts and minerals from groundwater.

  • Industrial High-Purity Water Production

Water supply for industries such as electronics, power generation, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

  • Municipal Water Supply

Improving drinking water quality in high-salinity areas.

  • Boiler Feedwater

Reducing the risk of scaling and enhancing equipment operating efficiency.

  • Wastewater Reuse

Recovering industrial wastewater to enable water resource recycling.

Operation & Maintenance Guidelines

Feed Water Pretreatment Requirements

  • Silt Density Index (SDI) ≤ 5
  • Turbidity < 0.1 NTU
  • Residual chlorine must be completely removed, as chlorine causes irreversible damage to polyamide RO membranes.
  • Antiscalant dosing is required to prevent scaling caused by calcium, magnesium, and silica.

Operating Conditions

  • Operating pH Range: 2–11
  • Chemical Cleaning pH Tolerance: 1–12 (short-term exposure)
  • Standard Operating Temperature: 25°C
  • Maximum Temperature Limit: 45°C

Cleaning Frequency

  • Groundwater Applications: Chemical cleaning every 3–6 months.
  • Surface Water / Reclaimed Water Applications: Chemical cleaning every 1–3 months.
  • Regular low-pressure flushing is recommended to reduce surface fouling and maintain membrane performance.

Service Life

  • Under proper pretreatment and operating conditions, the membrane service life is typically 2–3 years.
  • Inadequate pretreatment can accelerate membrane fouling and degradation, resulting in noticeable performance decline within one year or less.
