Description
PTFE hydrophobic membrane repel water and other polar liquids while allowing gases and non-polar solvents to pass through. Its unique properties make it ideal for demanding filtration applications. PTFE membrane is made of natural permanently hydrophobic PTFE material. Even under very low pressure difference, it can ensure that moist air or other gases can pass through without obstruction, while aqueous solution cannot pass through. Its performance is just the opposite of hydrophilic membrane. PTFE filter membrane has extremely strong chemical compatibility and can filter almost all organic solvents and highly corrosive chemicals. When PTFE filter membrane must be used to filter aqueous solutions, it must be pre-soaked with ethanol or isopropanol before the aqueous solution can be filtered.
Structure of PTFE Hydrophobic Membrane
Key properties of PTFE hydrophobic membrane
- Superhydrophobic: Naturally water-repellent due to low surface energy.
- Chemical resistance: Compatible with nearly all aggressive chemicals (acids, bases, solvents).
- Thermostatic: Stable at temperatures from -200°C to +260°C (autoclavable).
- Breathing: Allows gas flow while blocking liquids (ideal for degassing).

Common Applications
- Air Filtration: PTFE membrane can be bonded to various high-temperature or normal-temperature filter materials such as PTFE needle-punched felt, glass fiber woven fabric, polyester spunbond fabric, etc., and is widely used in waste incineration, cold thermal power plants, cement, carbon, black carbon, boilers, biomass power plants, etc.
- Gas Filtration: Commonly used in filtering gases in industries like pharmaceutical production, chemical processing, and food packaging.
- Water Vapor Filtration: Used in situations where water vapor needs to be separated from gas or air streams.
- Medical and Biotechnological Applications: Employed in sterilization filters and other cleanroom technologies due to its hydrophobic properties and high chemical resistance.
